Rohan Bopanna and Florin Mergea continued their good start to the French Open beating the French pairing of Barrere-Halys in straightforward sets. The Indo-Romanian pair never looked in too much trouble, losing only 7 games and wrapping the match 6-3, 6-4 in almost an hour.

The sixth seeded Bopanna-Mergea duo were matched in almost all departments by the home pair with the two sides playing the same number of aces and winners, but the second serves where the area were Bopanna-Mergea had an edge. While the sixth seeds won 60% of their second serve points through the match, their unseeded opponents won just about 40% and that showed on the scoreline.

In the first set, Bopanna-Mergea won the only break of the set and saved the only one they faced to take a one set lead. In the second set, Bopanna-Mergea’s serve went for a toss, as they served 4 double faults and only had 52% first serves in. With both pairs suffering break after break, it was the Indo-Romanian pair that had won an extra break to head into the next round with a 6-3, 6-4 win.
