Aiming for a career slam, Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis suffered a shock defeat yesterday in the third round of the French Open that ended their dreams. The Indo-Swiss duo lost to Czechs Barbora Krejcikova-Katerina Siniakova in straight-sets leaving Sania to hope for a better mixed doubles finish.

Chasing a fourth consecutive major after a dream of a 2015 and an Australian Open in 2016, SanTina appeared out of sorts all through the match at Roland Garros. After winning the first game, the pair was broken twice as they slumped to a 1-5 score. Sania and Hingis have come back from similar scores in the past, and appeared to be capable of doing it again when they won two consecutive games to go to 3-5. But the Czech duo, who had failed to close out the set in the first chance, wrapped it up the next time to win the set 6-3.

Trailing 1-4 in the second set, Mirza and Hingis were irked by a call that went against them and Mirza threw the ball in frustration at the decision. But the pair failed yet again and lost the set 6-2 to end the dreams of a Career slam so early into the event.
