Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal set up their second title clash of the season after the Australian Open by securing contrasting wins in the semi-finals in Miami. Swiss ace Federer earned a hard-fought 7-6, 6-7, 7-6 win over Nick Kyrgios while Spaniard Nadal beat Fabio Fognini 6-1, 7-5.

Federer took three hours to defeat the stubborn Aussie, after having been pushed hard by Tomas Berdych in the quarter-finals where the Swiss saved a match point.

Meanwhile, Nadal reached his fifth Miami Open final by defeating the Italian. The Spanish former world No 1 has lost all four previous finals and will be looking to change the script.

Earlier, Johanna Konta won the women's singles crown by beating Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark 6-4, 6-3. Great Britain's Konta had beaten Venus Williams 6-4, 7-5 in the semifinals.

The competition was fierce in the opening set of the women's final before Konta capitalized on Wozniacki's double faults to clinch it 6-4. The second set was even before Konta went up 4-3 before closing out the match.
