Anyone who plays Rafael Nadal always needs decisions to go for him, particularly on clay. But David Goffin was at the receiving end of a howler from umpire Cedric Mourier when he saw the pitch mark of a previous ball and overruled the initial correct call which was given by the linesman.

Belgium’s David Goffin was at the receiving end of an unfortunate call from referee Cedric Mourier during his semifinal encounter against Rafael Nadal at the Monte Carlo Masters. The incident occurred with Goffin serving on advantage at 3-2 in the first set when Nadal’s return clearly landed long of the baseline and was rightly called as out by the linesman.

But Courier soon rushed to the spot and upon seeing the pitch mark of a previous ball, overruled the initial decision and awarded the point to Nadal, despite Goffin’s vocal protestations and arguments.

And the Belgian paid the price for Mourier’s terrible decision as Nadal came back to level the first set at 3 games apiece, before sealing a 6-3, 6-1 victory in the semi-final and picking up his 10th Monte Carlo Masters title against compatriot Albert- Ramos Vinolas in the final on Sunday.

You can watch Mourier’s gaffe here.
