WATCH | Henri Kontinen produces stunning reflex half volley off Sania Mirza's smash
Playing against Sania Mirza and Ivan Dodig, Henri Kontinen produced a spectacular reflex half volley that left, not just his partner Heather Watson stunned but the audience in awe as well. The unseeded duo ended up winning the game against the fourth-ranked team of Dodig- Mirza 7-6, 6-4 yesterday.
Having won the first set in the tie-breaker, Kontinen and Watson were already a break up when Dodig came in to serve in the ninth game of the second set. The Into-Croat duo had already won the first point of the game when the Finnish star decided to showcase his talent. Watson returned a Dodig serve with a mistimed shot down the line that Mirza pounced upon and smashed into Kontinen's feet. The doubles World No. 1, however, pulled off a miraculous escape as he produced a stunning reflex half volley that left both Mirza and Dodig stranded. Kontinen’s partner congratulates him for this amazing shot and fans also applauded him. The 27-year-old also seemed surprised with his quick action. The unseeded duo was the champion in the 2016 Wimbledon.
What was incredible, apart from the reaction of the crowd, was Watson's expression after the point as she took some time to register what had just transpired. But she wasn't the only one as the 27-year-old also shook his head in disbelief with what he had managed to pull off.
Watson and Kontinen will face 10th seeded Rohan Bopanna and Gabriela Dabrowski in the next round.
"We're going to need another look at that to believe it happened!"
