Timea Bacsinszky of Switzerland beat 13th-seeded home favourite Mladenovic 6-4, 6-4 and entered in the French Open semi-finals, the match was twice delayed by rain. Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic's French Open quarter-finals were postponed until Wednesday because of the heavy rain in Paris.

30th seed Timea Bacsinszky will celebrate her 28th birthday (8 June) by playing in the semi-finals of the French Open after a straight-sets victory over home favorite Kristina Mladenovic.

Bacsinszky, who has reached a career-high singles ranking of world No. 9, said, "I feel extremely privileged to be in a second semi-final at Roland Garros".

"It was extremely difficult today. There was fine weather, then rain, wind and the clay was blowing in our eyes," said Bacsinszky, reported by Firstpost.

"I had to stay concentrated. I am sorry for the crowd but happy for me."

Bacsinszky, who has reached the French Open semi-finals for the second time, made the last four in 2015.

In the next round, she will face unseeded Latvian Jelena Ostapenko. 19-year-old Ostapenko thrashed 11th seed Caroline Wozniacki 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 to take her place in the semi-finals of the French Open.

Because of heavy rains in Paris, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic’s French Open quarter-final matches have been rescheduled for Wednesday.

Fourth-seeded Nadal will face fellow Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta in the first of the four quarterfinal match-ups today.

In another encounter, second-seeded Djokovic meets sixth seed Dominic Theim of Austria.

World number one Andy Murray faces Japan's eighth seed Kei Nishikori, while Swiss third seed Stan Wawrinka - the 2015 champion - takes on Croatian seventh seed Marin Cilic on a day that will decide the Open's direction - the favorites or the dark horses.
