John McEnroe has described Novak Djokovic's French Open Quarterfinal loss to Dominic Thiem as "inexplicable" while questioning the latter's desire to play the game. Djokovic's defeat has also ensured that the Serbian will drop out of the world's top two for the first time since 2011.

Djokovic lost in straight sets of 7-6 (5), 6-3, 6-0 to Thiem, in what was his earliest exit at the Roland Garros in seven years. The Serb, who has been undergoing a lean patch, is now without a major title after holding all four 12 months ago, ironically at the same court. This hasn’t gone well with the seven-time Grand Slam winner McEnroe, who slammed Djokovic for his “giving up” approach.

"I don't remember seeing a time in the last six to eight years when Novak mailed it in," McEnroe told the BBC.

"He basically gave up."

Djokovic was clearly at his worst in the final set, in which he won just eight points, failing to pick up a single game. This was Djokovic's first straight-sets defeat in a major since his loss to Andy Murray in the Wimbledon final in 2013 while it was only the third time in Djokovic's Grand Slam career that he lost a set 6-0.

"I don't remember seeing a time in the last six to eight years when Novak mailed it in," the 1984 French Open runner-up McEnroe said.

"It looked in the third set like he just didn't want to be out there, couldn't compete anymore, and that's shocking for a guy that's won as much as he has and prides himself on competition.

"On paper, it was the most interesting quarter but to see it tail off like that is highly surprising.

"If you had told me a year ago when he was the only guy since Rod Laver holding all four Slams that this is what we'd be talking about now, I'd have told you, you were nuts," he signed off.

Federer is the only player to register at least ten titles on three different surfaces, he has 63 hard court titles,15 grass court titles, and 11 clay court titles. For more fun stats and predictions play the newest fantasy-cum-predictions game in the market - Nostragamus.
