Ramkumar Ramanathan went down 6-7, 6-3, 7-6 against Marcos Baghdatis in the quarterfinals of the Antalya Open after his stunning victory against Dominic Thiem. Meanwhile, Novak Djokovic overcame Donald Young 6-2, 7-6 (9) at Eastbourne on Thursday to set up a semi-final clash against Daniil Medvedev.

Ramkumar Ramanathan's campaign ended at the Antalya Open in Turkey yesterday after the Indian tennis player went down against Cyprus' Marcos Baghdatis in a nail-biting thriller in the quarterfinals of the event. The World No. 222 won the first set in the tiebreaker by a convincing margin of 7-0 to take the initial lead in the match.

However, Baghdatis brought the match back onto level terms after winning the second set 6-3 with ease. The Indian tennis star squandered quite a few chances in the third and deciding set after he went 30-0 up against Baghdatis twice but failed to capitalise on the lead, while the Cyprus' player forced the set into a tiebreaker.

The Indian was well on top of his game initially in the tiebreaker winning a breakpoint only to see Baghdatis win six consecutive games. However, the Chennai lad was not in a mood to give up and levelled the tiebreaker at 6-6. Baghdatis then sealed the match 8-6 in the tiebreaker owing to his brilliant net play to enter the semi-finals of the competition.

Meanwhile, Novak Djokovic cruised into the semi-finals of the Eastbourne Open after defeating Amercian Donald Young in straight sets of 6-2, 7-6(9) in the quarterfinals. After winning the first set with ease, Djokovic saved two break points on Young's serve at 5-4 and forced the set into a tiebreaker which the Serb won on his own serve clinching the match and the semi-final spot.

In the women's singles, World No. 1 and top seed Angelique Kerber was defeated by Johanna Konta in straight sets of 6-3, 6-4. On the other hand, Simona Halep lost 5-7, 6-4, 6-1 to sixth-seeded Caroline Wozniacki which also ended the Romanian's bid of topping the WTA rankings.
