Rohan Bopanna crashes out of Miami Open
Rohan Bopanna and Pablo Cuevas were knocked out in the first round of the Miami Open by the all-Australian team of Nick Kyrgios and Matt Reid. The Indo-Uruguayan pair rallied from a set down but ended up losing the super tie-break. The match lasted an hour and 24 minutes.
The contest was an engrossing affair with the Australians going up a break as early as the third game. The Indo-Uruguayan duo fought back to level in the sixth game and then took the lead in the eighth. However, they failed to hold their serve as the Aussies took the first set at 7-5.
The Indo-Uruguayan wildcard broke their opponents in the first game of the second set again before rain halted play. The match resumed the following day and Bopanna and his partner won back-to-back breaks to take the game into the super tie-break.
Bopanna-Cuevas didn't get the start they were looking for in the tie-breaker as they fell 2-7 behind in the race to 10. Although though they staged a late fightback, it was too little too late as the Australians completed the win 10-7.
In the singles draw, Milos Raonic, Rafa Nadal, and Kei Nishikori proceeded to the third round of the event.
India's hopes now lie in the hands of Sania Mirza who will start her campaign tonight.
