Indian men’s doubles Tennis player Rohan Bopanna ranked 37th in the ATP men’s doubles rankings will partner Divij Sharan ranked 39th in the same category starting with the Maharashtra Open. They both had paired earlier this year at the Asian Games to win the men’s doubles Tennis gold medal.

For the 2019 season veteran Tennis player Rohan Bopanna will partner fellow countryman Divij Sharan. They had formed a good partnership at the Asian Games earlier this year which won India the men’s doubles gold medal.

“I'm going to be playing with Divij from next year. We're going to be playing together from Pune itself; then a tournament before going to the Australian Open and then we have the Davis Cup as well. It’s always nice to play with someone from your home country,” Bopanna said, reported The Hindu.

Both the players are ranked in thirties in the ATP men’s doubles rankings. Bopanna is ranked 37th while his partner Sharon is ranked 39th. The rankings hint that they would form a lethal doubles pairing which even the latter hinted at.

“If that was not the case we wouldn’t have been trying to partner with each other,” smiled Bopanna, who was speaking after unveiling the trophy for the Tabebuia Open wheelchair tennis tournament.

It was not a very good year for Bopanna who was haunted by injury this year. But he recovered in time to participate in the Asian Games. He also did not seem too worried by the slip in his rankings and said that had he played for the whole year the scenario would have been different.

“At Wimbledon, getting hurt was not easy. I was almost not going to play the Asian Games. When you miss a lot of tournaments — I was defending a few points at the Toronto and Cincinnati Masters — it’s not easy.

“I completely missed the hard-court season and went straight to the US Open. I’m not worried about my ranking because I know that if I’d had a full season it would have been different. I’m glad to be fully fit again and playing.”
