Andy Murray has planned to trim his schedule for the new season to prevent the recurrence of the injuries that blighted his campaign in 2017, after the Wimbledon quarter-final exit in July. Murray has been suffering from a hip problem that kept him out of the latter part of the season last year.

Taking inspiration fromĀ  Roger Federer, who had skipped the whole clay season last year to get ready for the Wimbledon Championship, Andy Murray has decided to manage his workload better in the upcoming season. The 30-year-old, who missed out on the entire season post-Wimbledon due to injury, is looking to rectify his mistakes by learning from Federer and Rafael Nadal who won two Grand Slams each last year.

The 35-year-old Federer, in particular, benefited a lot due to his extended lay off during the clay season as he was able to regain his full strength for his favourite grass season. The 19-time Grand Slam winner seems to have inspired the next generation of tennis stars to rethink their strategy for the long season that lies ahead.

ā€œIā€™ll probably make some changes to my schedule this year. I would want to play as long as I could physically do it, and most of the players would feel the same way... giving yourself breaks, especially as you get older, is very important and something that I'll certainly be looking to do," Murray told Reuters.

Murray, who started 2017 as the top-ranked player in the world, finished the year at theĀ 16th place due to the injuries. While he was hoping to make a strong start to the year, it appears that the Scot might miss out on the opening Slam of the year after he withdrew from the Brisbane International because of a hip injury.

ā€œIn the short term Iā€™m going to be staying in Australia to see if my hip settles down a bit and will decide by the weekend whether to stay out here or fly home to assess what I do next,ā€ Murray posted on his Instagram account.
