The best players in any sport are subject to immense pressure to live up to their reputation and sometimes lose their cool on the big stage. Such was the case when Novak Djokovic smashed his racket in anger in today’s match against Spanish opponent, Roberto Bautista-Agut at the French Open.

Former World number one Novak Djokovic, who last won the last of his 12 grand slam titles in 2016, is currently in a dark stage of his career. Having dropped to 22 in the ATP rankings and personal and injury issues adding to his woes, one can hardly imagine what is going on in the mind of the Serbian player.

After having narrowly scraped through the first match at the French Open where Djokovic beat J Munar of Spain, he was drawn against 13th seed Spanish player Roberto Bautista-Agut in the round of 32 encounter of the tournament.

Djokovic was made to work hard in the first set of the game as Agut proved himself to be more than a worthy opponent for the former top-ranked player. However, Djokovic seemed to have lost his calm when Agut showed his bravery, coming back from 4-1 down in the second set to beat the 12-time Grand Slam winner in the tiebreak.

Djokovic was so frustrated at the incident that he smashed his racket into the court multiple times which destroyed it completely and forced the Serb to use another one. It seems that pressure has gotten to the Serbian’s head as the heat at the French Open continues to rise.
