Yuki Bhambri failed to continue his journey at the Miami Open as he faced a 3-6, 6-7 second-round loss to eighth seed Jack Sock. Meanwhile, Roger Federer has also been knocked out of the competition after suffering a 6-3, 3-6, 6-7(4) defeat to the 175th ranked Thanasi Kokkinakis of Australia.

The Indian tennis player, who has been on the form of his life, failed to showcase his rich vein of form against Sock. After losing the first game he managed to save his service but lost his second serve which gave a breakpoint to his opponent who got a 3-1 lead. The Indian then tried to stage a come back in the game by saving his next serve and also earning the breakpoint in the very next game which gave a chance for him to bounce back at 3-4 with Sock in the lead. From that moment, Sock didn’t give a chance to Bhambri at all and used his all his experience to win the first set 6-3.

The second set of the match seemed almost same as the first in the initial stage as after four games the score was 3-1 in the favour of the American. In the next three occasions, the Indian ace managed to save his service and in the very next game, which was the 10th game of the set, Sock lost his service and that gave a chance to the Indian to equal the scoreline for the first time in the set. Both the players failed to maintain their serves after that and when the score reached 6-6, the match entered into the tie-breaker where Sock used his big-game experiences to win the clash.

Meanwhile, the tournament saw a huge upset as World No. 1 Roger Federer crashed out in the second round. The defending champion in Miami had a one-set lead against 175th ranked Thanasi Kokkinakis of Australia, but failed to close the match in his favour. With the 6-3, 3-6, 6-7(4) defeat to the Aussie, he ended his chances of staying as the No. 1 player for a long time as his archrival Rafael Nadal will dethrone him when the new rankings will be announced on April 2.
