Ankita Raina has progressed to the second round of the Kunming Open after a victory against Samantha Stosur which is the biggest win in the Indian's career. Raina, who entered the top 200 singles rankings last year, defeated the US Open Champion 7-5, 2-6, 7-5 in two hours and fifty minutes.

Ankita Raina, who is ranked 178 in women’s singles in the world, is having a great run in recent days. The 26-year-old has stunned US Open champion Samantha Stosur 7-5 2-6 7-5 in a two hour fifty minute-battle at the WTA 125K event Kunming Open. This was their second meet and the first one was won by the Australian in straight sets. With this terrific win, she has now progressed to the second round of the ongoing Kunming Open on Wednesday. She will now face Kai Lin Zhang in the next round of the tournament.

The Asian games bronze medalist who struggled to hold three aces throughout the match managed to control herself with only six double faults where the 77-ranked Stosur committed errors. It is notable that the 26-year-old is only the third woman tennis player to come under 200 singles rankings last year after Sania Mirza and Nirupama Vaidyanathan.

Australian tennis player Stosur is a former No 1 in doubles who has won six other Grand slam titles. It is notable that the 35-year-old has beaten Serena Williams in 2011 US Open Finals as well earlier in her career.
