Indian Tennis Round up | Ramkumar Ramanathan enters second round of Wimbledon Qualifications, Saketh Myneni bows out
Ramkumar Ramanathan has entered the second round of the men’s singles qualification event for the Wimbledon after beating Lukas Lacko in straight sets. In another men’s singles match, Saketh Myneni lost to Guillermo Garcia Lopez of Spain in round 1 to get knocked out of the event.
Indian tennis ace Ramanathan had a great start to his campaign with an aim of getting into the Wimbledon as he defeated Slovenia’s Lukas Lacko. The Indian got the better of his opponent in straight sets 6-3, 6-2 on the grass courts of Wimbledon to make his way into the next round. Ramanathan will now take on Poland’s Kamil Majchrzak.
Meanwhile, in another men’s singles battle, India’s Saketh Myneni gave a tough fight to Spaniard Lopez. The match continued for two hours and 22 minutes before Myneni lost the battle 4-6, 6-4, 5-7 and bowed out of the qualifications. Ankita Raina, the only Indian in the women’s event, will be seen in action on Tuesday.
In the Antalya Open, top-ranked Indian singles tennis player Prajnesh Gunneswaran qualified into the second round by getting the better of Janko Tipsarevic of Serbia in straight sets. The world No 94 won the first round game against Tipsarevic 6-0 7-6. He will now take on Lorenzo Sonego in the second round of the tourney in Turkey. Gunneswaran has already qualified for Wimbledon because of his ATP rankings.
In the men’s doubles category of the Antalya Open, India’s Divij Sharan and his Brazilian partner Marcelo Demoliner started their campaign with a 7-5, 6-2 win against Tuna Altuna and Cem Ilkel.
