Prajnesh Gunneswaran has been knocked out in the first round of the ongoing Miami Open as he lost his opening battle against Spain’s Jaume Munar. The Indian tennis player, who got into the main draw through the qualifiers, was beaten 7-6 (3), 6-4 by the world no. 61 in the ATP Masters 1000 event.

After a wonderful run at the recently-concluded Indian Wells tennis tournament, the world no. 84 failed to make an impact in the Miami Masters as he was beaten in the first round by Munar in straight sets. It was Gunneswaran’s second Masters 1000 main draw appearance after he made it to the tournament’s main draw after beating Jay Clarke in the qualifying tie.

Although the first set went into a tiebreak, the Spaniard dominated against the Indian towards the end to take it and take a lead in the match. Gunneswaran, however, had broken first but lost his serve on the first break point.

Munar looked comfortable in the second set and won it comfortably to knock the Indian out of the tournament in the first round. Gunneswaran was weak with his serves as he committed five double faults to four aces. He won only 67% points on the first serve.

After finishing in the third round of the Indian Wells, the top-ranked Indian tennis player, defeated Clarke in straight sets 6-4, 6-4 to qualify for the main draw in Miami.
