Vinesh Phogat shines as Dilli Veer ends PWL with a victory
Dilli Veer captain Vinesh Phogat recorded a surprise success over Alyssa Lampe to guide her team to a 4-3 win to register their maiden victory of the Pro Wrestling League (PWL) at the Koramangala indoor Stadium in Bangalore on Wednesday.
With the semi-finals line-up already decided, the dead rubber between Bengaluru Yodhas and Dilli Veer proved to be a tight contest as the final bout of the day decided the winner. However, the upset of the day was registered earlier in the bout between Vinesh Phogat of Dilli Veer and 2013 World Wrestling Championship bronze medallist, Alyssa Lampe of United States in the women’s 48kg category.
The bout lasted just one minute and thirty seconds as a leg tackle from Vinesh saw her scoring eight points with the first move of the contest. The 2014 Commonwealth games gold medallist finished off the match with another take-down to register a 10-0 upset victory over her American counterpart.
In the last and deciding bout of the day, Bajrang Punia went down 1-10 to 2015 World Wrestling Championship silver medallist Ikhtiyor Navruzov in the men’s 65kg category. The experienced Uzbek wrestler outclassed his Indian counterpart to deliver Dilli Veer their maiden victory of the tournament.
