Indian wrestlers Narsingh Yadav and Sandeep Tomar won bronze and silver medals respectively at the Spanish Grand Prix Wrestling championship in Madrid as they continued their preparations for the Olympics. However, London Olympics bronze medallist Yogeshwar Dutt failed to clinch a medal.

After winning the nod to represent India in the 74kg category at the Olympics ahead of double Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar, Narsingh Yadav continued his preparations for the quadrennial event by winning a bronze medal at the Spanish GP. The 2015 World Wrestling Championship bronze medallist beat Canada’s Jasmit Phulka 7-0 in the first round, but lost to Livan Lopez of Cuba in the next round. However, the Indian got another bite at the cherry after the Cuban entered the final of the event. Livan Lopez won the gold medal in the event, while Zelimkhan Khadjiev of France took the silver. Purevjav Unurbat of Mongolia also won the bronze in the category.

In the 57kg category, Sandeep Tomar lost to Erdenebat Bekhbayar of Mongolia to settle for a silver. However, Yogeshwar Dutt, who won a bronze in the 2012 London Olympics, failed to win a medal at the event and crashed out early after losing to Cuba's Yowlys Bonne, who won the bronze medal in the 65kg category in Madrid.
