After Narsingh Yadav's room-mate Sandeep Yadav also failed the doping test, the WFI today alleged that there was a conspiracy to undermine Narsingh's Olympic medal hopes. Pointing to the suspiciously huge amount of steroid, the official called it “deliberate” and “suspicious”.

Indian sports was shaken up badly over the weekend after Olympic medal hopeful Narsingh Yadav tested positive for banned steroids. Narsingh had endured a prolonged media trial against double Olympian Sushil Kumar in a tussle for the Olympic quota and just when everyone hoped things would move ahead, the wrestler's provisional suspension has all but killed his hopes of participating in the Rio Olympics. Unfortunately, India will be left with no contender in a discipline where the country had a very high chance of bringing in a medal.

The controversy received a new twist today with Narsingh's roommate at Sports Authority of India (SAI) hostel Sandeep Tulsi Yadav also testing positive for the same substance. However, the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) has thrown its weight behind the tainted star calling it a “conspiracy”.

WFI assistant secretary Vinod Tomar said, "The fact that Narisngh's teammate at the camp has also tested positive for the same substance, it clearly looks to be a foul play. Both the wrestlers were consuming the same supplements as they were roommates. It arises suspicion," reported PTI.

"There was a high quantity of steroid in the sample, which is hard to believe. It seems like a deliberate thing. Why would anyone take such high dose," he questioned.

The official also replied that noone else in the camp had tested positive and said that it reaffirms his suspicions of foulplay.

"No. Only these two guys have failed it and this clearly indicates that something is wrong."

Sources had earlier reported that Narsingh had tested positive for methandienone — a banned anabolic steroid.

However, Narsingh has maintained his stance of innocence claiming that it is all a conspiracy against him.

"This is a conspiracy against me. I have never taken any banned substance," said Narsingh.
