Indian wrestlers Sushil Kumar and Divya Kakran have decided to pull out of the World Wrestling Championship to be held this year. Struggling with form Sushil has decided to stay away from the prestigious event while Kakran is suffering from an ankle injury after the Asian Games in Indonesia.

In the recently-concluded Asian Games, Divya won a bronze medal in women's freestyle 69kg category while Olympic medallist Sushil failed to impress as he lost in the first round and came out of the Asiad. A source from Wrestling Federation of India has informed that both the wrestlers will not be a part of the Indian contingent for the World Championship. The Asian Games medallist aggravated her ankle injury in Indonesia and has decided to stay away from the global event scheduled to be played in Budapest, Hungary from October 20-28.

“Both Sushil and Divya have conveyed that they should not be considered for the Worlds. Jitendra Kumar will now compete in the 74kg. We have decided to field Navjot Kaur in the 68kg in place of injured Divya,” a WFI source told PTI.

“Divya’s ankle problem had aggravated in Jakarta during the Asian Games. She is undergoing rehabilitation program at a camp in Bahalgarh.”
