Wrestling Federation of India invites multiple applications ahead of its preparations for 2020 Olympics

With the Tokyo Olympics scheduled to be held next year, Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) has invited fresh applications for various posts like mental conditioning coaches, physios, and nutritionists. The board has decided to hire support staff in men’s freestyle, greco-roman and the women’s team.

With the Olympics approaching soon, the WFI has now asked for fresh applications to ensure proper preparations for the wrestlers ahead of the sporting extravaganza in Japan’s capital city. Apart from the positions of Physios, Nutritionist/ Dietician, Masseurs and Mental Conditioning Coaches in the three teams, the WFI will also hire a professional manager for the national side.

“The WFI has invited applications for the posts of Physios, Nutritionist/ Dietician, Masseurs and Mental Conditioning Coaches in all the three categories. The WFI will also hire a professional manager for the national team,” the national wrestling body said in a statement, reported Scroll. 

“These hirings are aimed at preparing the players with a focus on the 2020 Tokyo Games. These trained hands will closely work with the players at the Olympic preparatory camps in run-up to the Tokyo Games,” WFI President Brijbhushan Sharan Singh explained.

“Experienced physiotherapist, biomechanics coach, mental conditioning trainer, and nutritionist will be accompanying the wrestlers buttressed with exposure trips abroad, ensuring world-class preparations for each of the Indian grapplers.”

In the last three editions of the Olympics, India has managed to clinch medals in wrestling and WFI is making elaborate plans for the next year’s event as well. Rio Olympics bronze medal winner Sakshi Malik is positive with the plans made by the national body. 

“The new coaches already working with the team and now the news of the induction of professional support staff is a very significant move,” Malik said.

“This was a much-needed aspect of development and seamless training. I am happy that their presence will help and aid us to recover faster and train in more scientific ways.”
