Asian Wrestling Championships | Divya Kakran, Manju Kumari and Seema make it to bronze medal play-offs

Divya Kakran, Manju Kumari and Seema have qualified for the bronze medal playoffs of the ongoing Asian Wrestling Championships in China. Kakran and Manju lost their respective semi-final bouts to play the bronze medal games while Seema won her repechage bout to play for the third and fourth place.

In the Asian Wrestling Championship event, which is held at Xi’an in China from April 23 to April 28, three of the Indian women have made it to the bronze medal playoffs. 21-year-old Asian games bronze-medallist Divya Kakran (68kg category), who went down to Feng Zhou of China 4-14 in the semifinal bout, is scheduled to meet Battsetseg Soronzonbold of Mongolia in her bronze medal game. Earlier on the day, Kakran went on to beat Hong Thuy Nguyen of Vietnam 10-0 in her quarterfinal encounter.

2016 South Asian games gold-medalist Manju Kumari (59kg category), who was defeated by  Battsetseg Altantsetseg of Mongolia 6-15 will now meet Huong Dao in her next battle. On the other hand, 23-year-old Seema (50kg category), who defeated Meng Hsunan of Chinese Taipei in her repechage bout 10-2, will now take on Valentina Ivanovna Brik of Kazakhstan to secure a bronze medal in the ongoing continental event in China.

India’s medal hope in the 55kg and 76 kg weight divisions got over after Lalita and Pooja lost their respective bouts in the quarter-final round of the Asian Wrestling Championships.
