ISL 2015: Romeo double propels Goa to top of the table
FC Goa defeated Delhi Dynamos 3-2 at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi on Sunday to finish top of the league table. After going down 0-2 in the first half, Goa produced a brilliant performance in the second half as Romeo Fernandes’ brace propelled the Gaurs to a 3-2 win.
Sergio Greene put Delhi ahead in the 31st minute heading in Florent Malouda’s peach of a delivery from a free-kick. Delhi increased their lead to 2-0 in the 40th minute through Adil Nabi. Richard Gadze played a defence-splitting pass to find Adil Nabi and the striker slotted the ball past Goa goalkeeper Elinton Andrade to double the lead for the Gaurs.
FC Goa coach Zico brought on Romeo Fernandes in the 56th minute as substitute for Debabrata Roy. The Assolna lad changed the match with two goals in four minutes to pull the match back to level terms. The winger cut in from the right to unleash a powerful shot past Delhi goalkeeper Sanjiban Ghosh to pull one back for the Goans. He doubled his score within two minutes through an easy tap-in to bring back the game to 2-2.
Jofre scored in the dying moments to win the match for the Goans. The Spaniard dribbled past the defence to slot the ball into the back of the net to guide Goa into the top of the table.
FC Goa will again take on Delhi Dynamos in the semi-final.
