French Open 2016 | Hingis-Paes advance to second round
The Indo-Swiss pair of Leander Paes and Martina Hingis entered the second round of the mixed doubles event at the 2016 French Open on Thursday. Paes and Hingis defeated the unseeded pair of Anna-Lena Groenefeld and Robert Farah 6-4, 6-4 in the opening round of the competition at Roland-Garros.
After a disappointing quarterfinal exit at the Australian Open in January this year, 2015 US Open champions Leander Paes and Martina Hingis started the second grand slam of the year on a positive note by registering a first round win. The Indo-Swiss pair looked in good rhythm from the start and pocketed the first set 6-4 against Anna-Lena Groenefeld and Robert Farah. The German-Colombian pair broke the 2015 US Open champions
With the Indo-Swiss pair leading by a set, Anna-Lena Groenefeld and Robert Farah looked lost in the second set and allowed Leander Paes and Martina Hingis to break them four times in the set. The Indo-Swiss pair also dominated the first serves and won 68% of them to take the set 6-4.
Leander Paes and Martina Hingis will next face the winner of the match between the fourth-seeded pair of Yaroslava Shvedova and Florin Mergea and Lucie Hradecka and Marcin Matkowski.
