Within a few days, cricket fans will be witnessing the Test action again. India will be going against Afghanistan in a one off Test match, eager to revive its home form. The Indian team will assemble on 2 June at Mullanpur for the one off Test.

The last few months have been filled with enjoyment for the Indian fans. The ODI and T20I series against South Africa and New Zealand, followed by the T20 World Cup and now the Indian Premier League. This has also created a huge gap in the Test format, as India last played a Test in October 2025.

Now, on June 6, India will be going against Afghanistan for a one off Test. This will be the team's first Test match in the red ball format after having a whitewash against South Africa last year. The BCCI has already named the squad, and wants this test to be the best to boost the player's confidence for home games.

It has been reported that the BCCI has informed all players to assemble on 2 June at New Chandigarh or Mullanpur. This will be done for the one off Test and some serious discussions will be carried out related to the flaws in the home Tests.

Our Take

The Indian team is surely dominating the ODI and T20I format, but it can't be denied that the team stands among the bottom teams when it comes to the Test format. The transition phase has been hurting the Indian team and fans to a great extent, as they have endured more Test losses at home in the last two years, as compared to the last decade. Shubman Gill will be eager to ensure that the Indian team regains its Test dominance under his captaincy.
