Indian shuttlers Saina Nehwal and P V Sindhu held on to their positions of No.8 and No.10 respectively in the latest BWF rankings published today. Despite crashing out in the first round of four tournaments in a row, Kidambi Srikanth jumped two places to reach 11th in the rankings.

Saina Nehwal, who reached her fifth quarter-final in a row by making it to the last 8 of the Badminton Asia Championship today, maintained her position of No.8 in the rankings with the top 11 women shuttlers remaining as they were. Although P V Sindhu crashed out in the second round of the Badminton Asia Championships, the two-time World Championship bronze medallist did not face any slip-up in the rankings and held on to her No.10 position.

After winning three Super Series titles in a row, Thailand’s Ratchanok Intanon had risen to the top of the rankings last week, and she maintained her position at the top this week to continue her reign. However, her stay at the top could be in danger after her second round exit in the Badminton Asia Championship. Spain’s Carolina Marin remained at No.2, while Chinese shuttler Li Xuerui held on to the No.3 position.

In the men’s section, it was better news for India. Despite once again putting in a disappointing performance by crashing out in the opening round of the Badminton Asia Championship, Kidambi Srikanth received some relief after he jumped two places to climb to 11th in the rankings. Ajay Jayaram and Parupalli Kashyap moved up one place each to 20th and 24th respectively, while H S Prannoy jumped three places to 27th.

Chen Long from China leads the men’s singles rankings, followed by Malaysian Lee Chong Wei.

In the men’s doubles, Manu Attri and B Sumeeth Reddy moved up one place to 19th, while Pranaav Jerry Chopra and Akshay Dewalkar remained static at 29th. Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa also moved up one place in the women’s doubles rankings to reach 15th.
