After winning India’s first silver medal in badminton in the Olympics on Friday, PV Sindhu has expressed her joy at winning the medal. The 21-year-old, who lost to World No.1 Carolina Marin in a tight three-setter, also felt that things would be different from here on in her life.

PV Sindhu won India’s first-ever silver medal in badminton at the Olympics on Friday, and was elated after winning India’s second medal in the competition. Sindhu defeated World No. 2 Wang Yihan and Japan’s World No.6 Nozomi Okuhara on her way to the finals, but was defeated by the current World Champion Carolina Marin 21-19, 12-21, 15-21 in what as a closely-contested match.

In the first set, Sindhu was down 16-19 at one point and but fought back strongly to take the set 21-19. But Marin dominated the second set, winning it 21-12 before winning the final set in a thrilling fashion. Nevertheless, Sindhu was happy with her performance overall. 

“I'm on cloud nine. It's been a surprisingly great week. I played well, I had some great matches and now, I am Olympic silver medallist,” she told Times of India.

After Sakshi Malik won the bronze medal in wrestling on Thursday, Sindhu’s silver was India’s second medal at Rio and she said that things will be different in her life from now on.

“I understand things will be different, very different from now on. There was Sakshi in wrestling the other day, and some others came close, missing by the closest of points. All I can tell them is, 'Hard luck, but well played'," she said before signing off.
