Kidambi Srikanth and Parupalli Kashyap won in contrasting styles to advance to the third round of the German Open on Wednesday at the Mulheim an der Ruhr. PV Sindhu also made a winning start in the women's draw with an easy outing with the only casulaty being Junior World No. 1 Sameer Verma.

Kidambi Srikanth made a poor start to his match, like he did in the first round clash against Takuma Ueda, against Erik Meijs as he lost the first game 15-21. But the sixth-seeded Indian star fought back and won the next two games (21-6, 21-16) to progress through to the third round. He will face 12th seeded NG Ka Long Angus in the next round.

Seventh-seeded PV Sindhu eased past American shuttler Rong Schaffer 21-11, 21-13 to book a place in the next round. She will now face Canada's Michelle Li in the second round on Thursday.

Parupalli Kashyap continued his impressive form in the men's draw by defeating Ireland's Joshua Magee 21-12, 21-11 in a match which lasted just 24 minutes. However, the 11th seeded Indian will face his toughest challenge so far in the competition, when he takes on higher-ranked opponent in Son Wan Ho, seeded eighth in the tournament, in the third round.

In the men's doubles, Manu Attri and Sumeeth Reddy had to work hard to win against the English pair of Marcus Ellis and Chris Langridge, after dropping the second game. However, they recovered well in the third game to win match 21-16, 19-21, 21-17 to set up a clash against the Chinese Taipei pair of Lee Shen Mu and Tsai Chia Hsin.

The only India casualty in Wednesday's round of matches was the exit of Sameer Verma, against the 15th seeded Korean Lee Dong Keun. Sameer won the first game, but lost the last two in a closely-fought contest. Eventually, the Korean came through to win the match, which lasted 69 minutes, 8-21, 21-19, 21-19.
