Gujarat Titans got off to a strong start in the powerplay, as Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan were able to time the ball beautifully. Spencer Johnson was able to generate some extra bounce at this pitch but Sai Sudharsan was able to counter it well, which helped GT to score 58 for no loss in six overs.

The momentum went towards CSK, when Noor Ahmad dismissed Sai Sudharsan after the powerplay finished. Jos Buttler was able to smash well but soon enough he fell down to a slower ball by Mukesh Choudhary. Shubman Gill held one end well as he also smashed a classy half-century. He received support from Rahul Tewatia and Washington Sundar, who gave late acceleration. Gujarat Titans scored 191/6 in 20 overs, with Gill scoring 71 runs off 47 balls.

In response, Chennai Super Kings started the innings well with Sanju Samson attacking Mohammed Siraj.
