Indian ace Saina Nehwal will make a comeback to competitive badminton at the China Open starting on Sept 15following recovery from a knee injury that derailed her Olympic campaign. Saina could face PV Sindhu in the quarter-finals if both players win their opening two games.

Saina Nehwal had undergone a surgery for the intra-articular injury (inside the joint) to her right knee that she sustained during the Rio Olympics, which sidelined her from participating in any tournaments after that. The current world No.6 has started her preparation for the 700,000 USD prize money tournament from last month and is hopeful of a good show.

The former World No. 1 will face Porntip Buranaprasertsuk of Thailand in the first round game. If she emerges victorious, the 26-year-old will square off with teenager He Bingjiao in the next round with the mouthwatering clash against Sindhu possible in the next round. Sindhu will start her campaign against Chia Hsin Lee from Chinese Taipei. The next match could be a tricky one against American Beiwen Zhang.

In the Men’s singles, HS Pronoy will lock horns with NG Ka Long Angus of Hong Kong while Andhra Pradesh shuttler S Sai Praneeth will square off with Marc Zwiebler in the first round.
