PV Sindhu has reached her best ever ranking of 2 in the latest rankings released by the Badminton World Federation today. The 21-year-old India Open champion leapfrogged Sung Ji-Hyun, Akane Yamaguchi, and Carolina Marin to land one place behind Tai Tzu Ying, who tops the rankings chart.

Even though Sindhu was ousted from the Malaysia Open in the first round, her success in the India Open over Carolina Marin in straight sets has seen her gain 4160 ranking points. However, she is still 12152 points behind Tai Tzu Ying. Spaniard, Carolina Marin is third on the list a mere 95 points behind the Indian. The only other Indian in the top 10 is Saina Nehwal, who has dropped one place to land at nine.

In the men’s singles, Ajay Jayaram is the only player in the top-20 even after dropping a place. The 29-year-old is the only shuttler from the Indian contingent who is still active in the Malaysia Open after beating Viktor Axelsen 9-21, 21-14, 21-19 today.
