A day after beating the Mumbai Rockets to secure passage into the last four of the tournament, the Chennai Smashers condemned the Awadhe Warriors to a defeat in their last group game of the league stage. Having topped the group, Awadhe rested Saina Nehwal to keep her ready for the knockout games.

Vincent Wong Wing Ki put Awadhe in the driving seat when he won the first game of the match in a closely fought three-setter against Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk. The latter took the first set by a score of 11-6, but Ki fought back winning the next two 11-9 and 12-10 to put the Warriors in the lead.

Bodin Isara/P Sawant were picked by the Warriors as their doubles team for the match against the Chennai team of Chris Adcock and Gabrielle Adcock. The game proved to be a one-sided affair as the husband-wife duo won comfortably by the score of 11-4,11-9.

Next up was the match between Aditya Joshi and Parupalli Kashyap. While most people would have been excited to see Kashyap play it out against Srikanth Kidambi, it was Joshi who was picked by the Warriors for the Chennai Trump match. After losing the first set 7-11, Joshi came back to win the second set by a score of 11-5 to take the game into a decider. However, it was the 30-year-old Kashyap, who eventually secured the win by a score of 11-7 in the final set.

In the next game, Awadhe again broke fans' hearts when they picked Rituparna Das to compete against PV Sindhu instead of their top seed, Saina Nehwal. Sindhu showed her superiority in every department securing a straight sets win over her young opponent with the scoreboard reading 11-4,11-6.

Having already lost the tie, Awadhe opted for the men's doubles match up between Goh V Shem/Markis Kido and Mads Pieler Kolding/ B Sumeeth Reddy as their Trump match. The duo completed an easy win for their team by a score of 12-10, 11-8 to give the match scoreline a respectable look.
