With a thoroughly dominating performance, Indian shuttler Kidambi Srikanth has reached the Australian Open Super Series final by defeating fourth-seeded Shi Yuqi of China 21-10, 21-14. With the victory, Srikanth became the first Indian male shuttler to reach three successive Super Series finals.

Srikanth took less than 40 minutes to wind up the match against Yuqi with a fantastic display of smashes and backhands. But the beginning of the first game had little to differentiate between the duo as Srikanth and Yuqi matched each other point to point and levelled the game at 5-5. But Srikanth upped the ante from thereon by showing tremendous court coverage. The Chinese struggled to pick up the thread after that as the Indian took the opening game 21-10 in just 15 minutes.

Yuqi tried to make a comeback in the second game by putting pressure on Srikanth and levelled the score at 6-6. But Srikanth came out of the trap in a brilliant fashion and stretched his lead to 11-8 at the break. The Indonesia Open champion again bagged a couple of tricky points to extend his lead to 14-8. Although Yuqi won the next three points on offer, Srikanth nullified his opponent’s brave attempt to make it 19-13 in his favour and with a smash, he scampered his way to the final.

Srikanth will now face the winner of the match between Chen Long and Lee Hyun II in a bid to win his second successive title. Earlier, in last week, the 24-year-old won the Indonesian Open Super Series while he lost to his compatriot B. Sai Praneeth in the Singapore Open final, in April.
