Indian shuttlers Saina Nehwal and Kidambi Srikanth have pulled out of the Korea Open Superseries that begins on September 12. While Srikanth is suffering from a minor niggle, Saina is recovering from a thigh strain that she sustained in the World Championship semi-final in Glasgow.

Saina ran out of steam when Nozomi Okuhara found a different gear at the BWF World Championship semi-final as the Indian lost the game 12-21, 21-17, 21-10 in 73 minutes to be satisfied with a bronze medal. She looked in discomfort and now it seemed like her thigh injury was resurfaced yet again.

To give her sore thigh some rest, the Hyderabadi, who recently returned to the place where it all started – the Pullela Gopichand Academy - has decided to pull out of the Korea Open Super Series which will begin in Seoul on Tuesday. Srikanth, who won Indonesian Open and Australian Open Superseries this year, also decided to take a break to nurse his minor injury and hence, will not play the upcoming Superseries. But they may take part in the Japan Open scheduled to be held in Tokyo from September 19.

Confirming the development chief coach of the Indian badminton team Gopichand said that the shuttlers were advised to take rest.

"They are only minor injuries but will take little time to heal. We thought it would be better to skip Korea but they will be back in Japan," Gopichand said to TOI.
