India had a mixed day in the Vietnam Open with Ruthvika Shivani and Lakshya Sen booking their places in the quarterfinals, while Pardeshi Shreyanshi and Vrushali Gummadi were eliminated in the pre-quarters. The Men's doubles pair of Arjun MR and Ramchandran Shlok also advanced in Ho Chi Minh City.

India’s rising shuttlers continued their impressive performances in the ongoing 2017 Vietnam Open Grand Prix as Shivani and Sen managed to secure a place in the women’s and men’s quarterfinals respectively.

Shivani, a student of Pullela Gopichand Academy, who had won the gold medal at the 2016 South Asian Games in Guwahati, thrashed Chinese Taipei's Wan Yi Tang 21-15, 21-12 in the pre-quarters. She will now face Indonesian third seed Dinar Dyah Ayustine in the next round.

Similarly, Sen didn’t disappoint in his pre-quarter matchup as he registered an easy win 21-14, 21-12 over Truong Thanh Long in just 32 minutes and will take on Kodai Naraoka of Japan in the round of 8.

The fifth seeded men’s doubles pair of Arjun MR and Ramchandran Shlok also entered the quarters by edging out the Malaysian duo of Low Hang Yee and Mastan Jinn Hwa 14-21, 21-12, 21-12.

However, it wasn’t all good news for India as Shreyanshi and Gummadi journey came to an end in the same round. Shreyanshi was eliminated by Ayustine in three games with the score of 6-21, 21-16, 21-23. Gummadi, too, went down 8-21, 21-12, 10-21 to sixth seed Chen Su Yu of Chinese Taipei.
