The Korean Open title could see PV Sindhu rise to the World No. 2 position of the singles ranking chart yet again this year, as BWF is scheduled to release new rankings later this week. She had reached the No. 2 spot in April but a dismal run at the Malaysia Open saw her slip down the list.

PV Sindhu is more than likely to reclaim her career best World No. 2 position after her win over Nozomi Okuhara in the Korea Open Superseries final on Sunday. As per calculations, the current World No. 4’s last win has amassed her 81106 points that takes her past Korea's Sung Ji Hyun and Japan's Akane Yamaguchi to the second spot.

Sindhu completed her absolute dominance in the Korea Open with a hard-fought 20-22, 11-21, 21-18 win over Nozomi Okuhara, who had beaten her in the 2017 World Championship final last month. And as BWF’s new single rankings chart comes out this Thursday, September 21, the 22-year-old from Hyderabad looks all set to climb up two spots again.

Sindhu had become only the second India woman shuttler after Saina Nehwal to break into the top five singles ranking chart earlier in April this year. She had continued her scintillating form from the Rio Olympics as she won her maiden Super Series title at the China Open, which was followed by a qualification in the BWF World Super Series Final in Dubai after she had reached the final at Hong Kong.

She had started to look unstoppable when a poor display in the Malaysia Open saw her getting eliminated in the first round which resulted in her slipping to the fifth spot. She had to struggle to get into the 2017 World Championships final before she lost to Okuhara, but was yet again a contender for a spot in the top 3.

Sindhu would hope to retain the position for a longer period this time as she prepares for the Japan Open next. Chinese Taipei shuttler Tai Tzu-Ying is still at the top with a massive 94,409 points that she has gathered from 14 tournaments and Sindhu will have to continue her winning streak to finish anywhere near her this year.
