Indian ace shuttler Saina Nehwal is over the top after her most recent triumph at the 2018 CWG, as she claimed that her Gold at the CWG is right up there with her Olympic Bronze medal and the tag of world number one. Saina downed compatriot PV Sindhu in the women’s singles event to lift Gold.

It was a stunning day for Badminton lovers and Indian supporters as they gathered round to watch an all-Indian final in the women’s singles event between Saina Nehwal and PV Sindhu who battled their way to the finals in an attempt to secure Gold for India. The duo put on a stunning display for the audience as Saina showed why she is regarded as one of the most dependable and determined players in the sport of badminton as she beat Sindhu by a scoreline of  21-18, 23-21.

Saina went down on her knees as she yelled out in joy, which only showed how much the CWG Gold actually meant to the Indian shuttler. After she won Bronze in the 2012 Olympics, Saina said that the recent win in Gold Coast was on par with the previous medal in London and her number one BWF world ranking position.

"I really term it as next to my Olympic medal and my world No.1 ranking. So I would keep it somewhere there. It's a gift to my father and my mother, my country. It's a very emotional moment for me after the disappointing loss in Rio due to injury," second seed Saina told PTI.

"It was a neck to neck game for me, it was even tougher because I have been playing for the last 10-12 days. She is tall, she has longer legs and covers the court better than me, I have to run here and there," Saina said of her rival and teammate.

When quizzed if the match against Sindhu was more of a mental battle than a physical one, Saina replied, "You just have to play your game, it's a healthy rivalry, people enjoy it, no doubt we are under tremendous pressure. But I am happy to be pulling these off. It's not easy to play against someone who is ranked No.3 in the world now."

"It's a challenging match for me. I would like to thank Gopi sir for pushing me in the last three-four months and Christopher, my physio, who is working hard on my body. I was facing a lot of injuries on my shin, ankle and he came up and gave me a very good rehab program which is helping my leg strength," Saina added.
