Despite the shortage of time for thorough preparations due to the recently concluded World Championships, PV Sindhu has hoped that she can perform well at the upcoming Asian Games. She expects that the team to be able to retrieve more than a single bronze they claimed in Incheon in 2014.

It was the Indian Women's team who was to register a bronze in their name in the 2014 edition of Asian Games. Sindhu hopes that they will be able to convert the bronze into silver or gold as they go on to participate in the event at Jakarta/Palembang from August 18.

“Also, individuals, I hope that I do well. Taking the World Championship silver, taking it as a confidence, I hope that I move forward and do well,” Sindhu told PTI.

“Definitely, it is going to be very different. Because, we have the team events and also the individuals. Very less time to prepare. But, as a team, last time we got bronze. This time, we would expect a better one,” she said.

Syed Modi remains the only singles player to win a bronze medal for India after he won it in the 1982 Asian Games edition. After Sindhu reached the finals of World Championships, defeating the likes of Nozomi Okuhara and Akane Yamaguchi of Japan and Korea's Sung Ji Hyun, Coach Pullela Gopichand expects another successful act in the Asian Games.

“I think to beat Okuhara in the quarter-finals and Yamaguchi in the semifinals is something very good. Beating both of them, the way she (Sindhu) did, I think it has been fantastic. We are hopeful for another successful event at the Asian Games in the coming 10 days,” Gopichand told PTI.

Sindhu, however, has now lost two back to back finals at the World Championships. The Indian lost to Carolina Marin in the final last Sunday after having lost to Japan's Okuhara in Glasgow last year. Sidhu is determined to move from her losses to focus on the current events.

“I am really very happy for the silver. It's been a good week. As you all know the draw was comparatively tough. From the first round, there were good tough matches. It's good that from my side, I gave my 100 percent,” she said.

Gopichand has also spoken about the performances of the other players in the World Championships.

“I think we had four quarter-finalists at the World Championships more than it has ever been. But, I think there were areas which could have improved definitely. (Kidambi) Srikanth and (HS) Prannoy could have done better,” Gopichand said.
