Asian Games: PV Sindhu settles for a silver after losing to Tai Tzu Ying

Indian shuttler PV Sindhu had to settle for a silver in the womenâs singles badminton event at the ongoing Asian games after losing to Tai Tzu from Chinese Taipei 13-21, 16-21 in the final. Her compatriot Saina Nehwal had earlier clinched bronze medal after bowing out from the semi-final.
The Indian shuttler started off on a slow note and Tai dominated from the very beginning of the summit clash. She took a lead of five points before Sindhu managed to secure her first point in the opening game. The World No.1 led 11-7 against the Indian at the mid-break of the opening game. Sindhuâs court coverage wasnât up to the mark and she could manage only six more points in the game as it ended with Tai Tzu winning 21-13.
Although Sindhu took the first point of the second game, Tai Tzu came back strong with a deceptive net shot to make it 1-1. Sindhu committed unforced errors in the second game at the mid-break, the Taipei shuttler was leading 11-7 again. Sindhu couldnât do much in the rest of the time as Tai Tzu had five match points out of which the Indian managed to save only one. The Indian eventually lost the second game as well with 16-21 and settled for a silver.
Earlier at the games, PV Sindhu defeated second seed Akane Yamaguchi of Japan 21-17, 15-21, 21-10 to get a berth in the finals. In the first semi-final encounter, Saina Nehwal lost 17-21, 14-21 Tai Tzu Ying and brought home a bronze.Â
