The Indian mixed duo of Pranaav Jerry Chopra and Sikki Reddy reached in the second round of the German Open 2018 after defeating Chang Ko-chi and Cheng Chi-ya 24-22, 17-21, 21-19 at the Innogy Sporthalle in Mulheim-An-Der-Ruhr, Germany on Wednesday. Subhankar Dey has also progressed into round 2.

After reaching in the semi-final of the India Open, Chopra and Reddy continued their terrific form in the ongoing German Open tournament as they reached in the second round of the BWF World Tour Super 300. But it wasn’t an easy task for the Indian pair as they fought for 58 minutes to ensure the win against the Taiwan pair in the first round of the event. Chopra and Reddy will face Thai pair of Tinn Isriyanet and Pacharapun Chochuwong in the next round.

In the men’s singles match, Subhankar Dey, the only Indian representative in the singles, also entered into the next round. Dey maintained a lead 12-21, 11-19, before Wong Wing Ki Vincent retired due to injury. The Indian player will face fourth seed Chou Tien Chen in the second round of the event now.

It was a mixed day for the Indian players as in the both men’s doubles matches they saw losses. National champions Mannu Attri and Sumeeth Reddy faced a loss 16-21, 16-21 to Denmark’s Kasper Antonsen and Niclas Nohr. Arjun MR and Shlok Ramchandran also bowed out of the tournament as they were handed a 13-21, 18-21 defeat by the Japanese pair of Takeshi Kamura and Keigo Sonoda.
