Ace Indian shuttler Kidambi Srikanth revealed that CWG is a priority for him and winning a medal at CWG ranks high on his list. The 25-year old also thinks that India are playing much better than what they used to four years back, and have a good chance of winning medals at the quadrennial event.

Kidambi Srikanth is one of the best men’s badminton players in the world at the moment. He is currently ranked No. 2 in the BWF rankings after winning four major titles last year and one of India's biggest hopes in CWG. Four years ago, however, just before his Commonwealth Games debut in Glasgow, Srikanth was battling for life in an Intensive Care Unit. He was found unconscious on the bathroom floor of the Gopichand Academy and was later diagnosed with brain fever.

He ended up spending about a week in the ICU, giving a mighty scare to his near and dear ones. Despite his illness, Srikanth took part in the quadrennial event and reached the quarter-finals of the single’s event in Glasgow.

“It was some sort of a virus, I don’t even know the name. Nobody even wanted to tell me what happened that day and I don’t remember much. I was playing good enough so I returned and played at the Commonwealth Games but lost to a Singapore guy in the quarters,” Srikanth was quoted saying by the Indian Express.

He will definitely be approaching CWG with a totally different mindset and confidence this time. He has been playing some wonderful badminton over the last year or so and has been in the form of his life.

“Now after four years, I think I am much more confident after all the experience of the last one year, so it will be a different experience. Of course, winning a medal at CWG ranks high in my list,” he said.

Srikanth will be participating in the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast in a couple of weeks and he will be looking to retain the Commonwealth Games gold medal that Parupalli Kashyap had won for India in Glasgow after 32 long years.

“Last time we had won a good number of medals and now we are playing much better than what we were four years back and we have a great chance of winning more medals this time. Commonwealth Games is a priority for me. Winning a medal there is more important than becoming world number 1 and I will look to remain fit. It is one of the targets of the year,” the 25-year old Hyderabadi player said.
