Promising badminton talent Subhankar Dey failed to qualify in the main round of the Orleans Masters 100 tournament after losing to France’s Thomas Rouxel in three games. On the other hand, Gurusai Dutt played brilliantly to end compatriot Siril Verma's run in the qualifying round.

While badminton remains India's biggest hope in the Commonwealth Games next month, the junior shuttlers have already started pulling the strings at the Orleans Masters. India had a mixed day in the qualification rounds of the tournament on Tuesday as medal prospects Subhankar Dey and Siril Verma failed to qualify for the main round while Dutt progressed.

After the National championships bronze medalist, Dey, won the first game against Thomas Rouxel he couldn't keep his quality intact, losing the game 23-21, 19-21, 15-21. For Dutt, however, it was way too easy as he ensured his progress into the next round by beating compatriot Verma 21-17, 21-18.

In the women’s singles, Mughda Agrey managed to beat her French opponent Katia Normand by a margin of 15-21, 21-18, 21-13 to qualify for the main round. Meanwhile, another Indian Vaidehi Choudhari got the better of her French opponent Yaelle Hoyaux in straight-sets 21-19, 20-22, 21-18. The duo joins Sri Krishna Priya Kudaravalli and Saili Rane for the main draw.

However, not all results were positive for the Indian contingent as they had to leave the tournament in the qualification round. Anant Shivam Jindal, Adrian George, Aneeth Kumar Repudi, Hardik Makkar, Abhishek Yeligar, Shreyansh Jaiswal, and Karan Rajan Rajarajan, all lost their respective games in the men’s singles criteria.

The main draw of the tournament will start on Wednesday and the focus will remain on the likes of Parupalli Kashyap and Sameer Verma to win medals for India.
