Saina Nehwal has lauded the improvement and development India have shown in the recent years hoping that they get their best-ever position at CWG 2018. Saina who won the gold in the 2010 CWG, reminisced the moment stating that she will never forget when she received the medal.

In Commonwealth Games 2010 that was held in Delhi, Saina Nehwal had won the 100th medal for India. She won India’s 38th gold medal of the quadrennial event and it was the medal that eventually helped India finish at the second-position in the medal table. Eight years later ahead of the Gold Coast CWG, the memory has remained fresh in her mind.

“I felt so happy to be on the podium with the national tri-colour that I cannot forget it,” she was quoted saying by TOI.

She also claimed that India are at par with any developed country in terms of infrastructure, coaches, and equipment, hoping that they can finish with their best medal tally this time. She also sounded confident that India will do well in badminton and can win most of the events.

“We have improved infrastructure, we have excellent coaches and lots of talent in each game, we have equipment at par with any of the developed country of the world. So I wish the Indian contingent comes with best ever position in this chapter too,” the 28-year-old stated.

“Certainly we will be winners in most of the events, looking at our strength in all disciplines of team events as well as individual events in badminton,” she added.

The 2012 Olympic bronze medallist also revealed that fitness would be the key and achievements would be coming along. She has also thanked her coaches for helping her during tough times to stay fit.

“If you are fit, achievements will come your way. I got a lot of love from badminton, so I still feel I am a newcomer to the game. I take full care of my training, fitness, food and comfort. I got excellent coaches in my life like (Mohammed) Arif sir, Goverdhan (Reddy) sir, Vimal (Kumar) sir, Gopi (Pullela Gopichand) sir plus foreign coaches, good support staff which always helped me to be fit. God is always with me so I feel motivated to do well,” she revealed.

Injuries have played a big part in recent years and Saina Nehwal has dealt with them pretty well. With the pressure of being one of the favorites to clinch a medal, Saina also said it would be important to perform without pressure.

“There is no pressure, it is a competition and we have to perform to achieve success,” Saina said.
