SaarLorLux Open | Subhankar Dey stuns Lin Dan; Parupalli Kashyap beats Alexander Roovers

Subhankar Dey pulled off a shocker as he beat China’s Lin Dan by a scoreline of 22-20, 21-19 to enter the quarter-finals of the SaarLorLux Open Badminton in Germany on Thursday. Meanwhile, Parupalli Kashyap defeated local boy Alexander Roovers in straight games to make the quarters.

After a promising win in the second round against Italian opponent Fabio Caponio, Indian shuttler Subhankar Dey pulled off a stunning victory against the legendary Lin Dan in the pre-quarters at the ongoing SaarLorLux Open Badminton in Germany. Dey knocked out his Chinese counterpart in a straight games of 22-20, 21-19 win to seal a spot in the quarter-finals of the BWF event on Thursday night. 

Fellow compatriot, Parupalli Kashyap, also sealed a quarter-final berth as he raced away to a comfortable 21-14 21-12 win against local boy - Alexander Roovers. In the next round, Subhankar will go up against seventh seed Toby Penty of England while Kashyap will face Frenchman Toma Junior Popov.

There was further good news for the Indian contingent as women’s singles player, Saili Rane, registered a dominating 21-12, 21-8 win over Russia’s Anastasiia Semenova to move further in the competition. Rane utterly dominated the Russian in what was a first meeting between the two players for a match that lasted for just 26 minutes.

However, it was the end of the line for Men’s doubles pair of Run George and Sanyam Shukla who lost to Mark Lamsfuss and Marvin Emil Seidil 19-21 16-21. Meanwhile, China’s Huang Kaixiang and Wang Zekang beat MR Arjun and Shlok Ramachandran 21-16 21-18 in the other doubles match.
