Indian representation at the China Open ended as both PV Sindhu and Kidambi Srikanth lost their encounters in their respective singles quarter-final matches. The final nail in India's coffin came in the Men's doubles match where Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty lost in three games.

PV Sindhu went down to Chinese star He Bingjiao 17-21, 21-17, 15-21 in 69 minutes to lose the quarterfinals of the China Open. There was no good news for India in the men’s category too as India’s best hope Kidambi Srikant too lost his quarterfinal encounter 14-21, 14-21 to Chou Tien Chen from Taiwan.

Sindhu started the game on a good note leading almost all the first half of the first game but after the break, Bingjiao lead for the first time at the 15-14 and soon started striding ahead. Sindhu tried to make a comeback in the game, at one point trailing only by a single point at 17-18 but after that Bingjiao took four consecutive points to clinch the game 21-17.

Sindhu made a comeback in the second game and after trailing in the game initially at 4-2, Sindhu equalized soon and never let her opponent sneak ahead in the game even a single time after that taking the game 21-17.  Though Sindhu tried to put in a fight by a late surge to close in at 15-16 trailing by only a single point, the final game of the match was a one sided one for the most part. From the word go Bingjiao led the game, never for a moment was Sindhu lead in the third game and it ended painfully for Sindhu as Bingjiao pocketed the set 21-15 by bagging five consecutive points in the end.

In contrast to Sindhu’s match, Srikant lost his quarterfinal without putting up too much of a fight to his Taiwanese counterpart Chau Tien Chen in two straight games. The Indian was no match for the third ranked Taiwanese player as he clinched the first game 21-14 even though at one point Srikant had managed to equalise at 10-10. The second game was an even more simpler one for Chen as he led all the way to 21-14 to clinch the quarterfinals in just 35 minutes.

The bad day for India continued in the doubles court too as the Indian pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty lost their match to the Indonesian pair of Mohamed Ehsan and Hendra Setiawan 21-11, 16-21, 21-12 in 42 minutes.
