Subhankar Dey had a great start to his French Open campaign as he registered a win against world No 17 Tommy Sugiarto 15-21, 21-14, 21-17 in the first round of men’s singles. In women’s singles first-round match, PV Sindhu also started off well with an easy 21-15, 21-13 win against Michelle Li.

Subhankar Dey, who is ranked 42 in the world, stunned his Indonesian opponent Tommy Sugiarto to march ahead into the second round of the French Open which is being held in Paris. After going down in the first game by 15-21, the Indian shuttler made a great comeback to take the next two games 21-14, 21-17 and knock the world no. 17 out of the competition in a match that went for one hour and 18 minutes.

In the women’s singles event, it was PV Sindhu who registered a good win to start the tournament on a brilliant note. The world no. 6 from India got the better of Michelle Li of Canada in straight games. The match lasted for 44 minutes with Sindhu making her way into the second round by winning it 21-15, 21-13.
