My hard work is bearing fruits now, feels Amit Panghal
After winning a gold medal at the recently-concluded Asian Boxing Championships, Amit Panghal has expressed that his hard work is giving good results now. He has also stated that he understands the game now and his main target is to win a gold medal for India at the Olympics.
Amit Panghal came to the spotlight after he claimed a gold medal at the Asian Games last year in Jakarta. Meanwhile, he continued his dream run and domination at the Asian level by bagging another gold at the Asian Championships last week. In the 52kg men’s final, the Indian pugilist got the better of Korea’s Kim Inkyu in Bangkok to win the yellow metal.
The 23-year-old boxer is happy after the Championships and said that his hard work is bearing fruit now.
“It feels great. My hard work is bearing fruit now. And when the results of the hard work show, you feel motivated to do more and the happiness and satisfaction is just great,” Panghal told TOI.
The Haryana boxer now has a dream of excelling at the top level of international boxing and glory to the country. He will participate in the World Championship which is scheduled to be played in September and will also serve as a qualifier for the upcoming Tokyo Olympics to be held next year.
“The World Championship, which serves as the Olympic qualifier as well, is in September. If I face Dusmatov there, I will beat him with an even bigger margin,” the 23-year-old explained.Â
“My target is to win an Olympic medal for my country. Iske liye main apni jaan laga doonga! (I will even give my life for it.)”
Born in Rohtak, Panghal had moved to Gurugram. The city has lagged behind in sports as compared to other parts of Haryana. However, Panghal is of the belief that the city is gradually picking up pace as far as development in sports is concerned.Â
“It will happen soon because we are getting a lot of good, young boxers from Gurgaon now. A lot of kids won medals in the Khelo India Games as well. Gradually, it is picking up pace. I think after 2020, we will see a lot of good boxers coming out of Gurgaon. The culture there is changing. People are more into sports now,” the boxer signed off.
