P Harikrishna beats Nihal Sarin at TePe Sigeman Chess Tournament

Indian chess player P Harikirishna has beaten compatriot Nihal Sarin in the fourth round of the ongoing TePe Sigeman Chess Tournament in Malmo, Sweden. After the completion of the fourth round Grandmaster Harikrishna is leading the table alongside Englishman Gawain Jones with 3.0/4 each.

Harikrishna put up a stunning performance against youngster Sarin in the fourth round of the event being held in Sweden with white pieces. Although Sarin tried to maintain the balance between the two Indians by playing in a defensive manner, the Grandmaster outplayed him towards the end. The defensive play by Sarin had come at the cost of time and an error by Sarin ensured victory for the Grandmaster at the end of the game.

With three points from four matches, Harikrishna is now the joint leader in the competition alongside English Grandmaster Gawain Jones who got the better of Croatian chess player Ivan Saric yesterday. Liviu-Dieter Nisipeanu of Germany, Parham Maghsoodloo of Iran and Tiger Hillarp Persson of Sweden have two points each and are following the Indian and the Englishman on the points table.

Sarin is the other Indian on the table and is at the sixth position wwith 1.5 points at the moment.
