PCB Chief Shahryar Khan has reiterated that it is within Pakistan’s right to push India to honour the MOU they had signed regarding bilateral series between the two nations. He has also made it clear that they are now consulting their lawyers to look at legal means to enforce the MOU on the BCCI.

Following the Uri attacks, BCCI President Anurag Thakur had ruled out the possibility of resumption of cricketing ties between the two nations. In fact, India and Pakistan have not faced each other in a bilateral Test series since 2008. However, Pakistan are eager to resume the ties and have even urged the ICC to pay them compensation for the loss of revenue they have suffered from India failing to fulfill their commitment to play a bilateral series.

Speaking to media in Islamabad, PCB Chief Shahryar Khan has made it clear that Pakistan are entitled to ask for a bilateral series. He said, “We are not begging them to play us. Please don’t get that impression. But they (BCCI) signed a proper Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with us to play six bilateral series between 2015 and 2023 and they didn’t meet their commitment.”

Last month, the Indian Women’s cricket team had forfeited the ICC Women's Championship points to Pakistan due to their inability to play against them in the sixth round games. Due to this, India have also failed to gain direct qualification for the Women’s World Cup to be played in England in June 2017.

However, with the possibility of diplomatic relations between these two neighboring nations improving in near future seeming bleak with each passing day, the PCB are now considering the possibility of taking legal help to enforce the MOU on the BCCI, and have promised to bring up this issue at the next meeting of the Asian Cricket Council later this month.

“It is our right as a cricket nation to push them to honour the MOU. They immediately owe us at least two home series as the last full bilateral series was played in India in 2007. In the MOU, Pakistan was to host four series between 2015 and 2023.

“We have been consulting our lawyers on this issue of the MOU and we will be taking up this case of bilateral series at the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting this month,” Shahryar added, reported PTI.
