Australian great Jeff Thomson on Wednesday heaped praise on Shardul Thakur and said that the pacer has impressed him the most among the Indian bowlers in recent times. Thomson also added that he would have been disappointed if Thakur was not picked in the Indian side for the West Indies tour.

"Shardul has done the hard work, two years of hard work. What would have been very disappointing for me, not that I had a great deal to do with it as he's very talented, is if he had not been picked for India. That's (his selection) fantastic," said Thomson, reported India Today.

The Aussie great, who is Mumbai as head coach of MCA-IDBI Federal Life Insurance Bowling Foundation's coaching programme, also added that Thakur has been impressive in recent times and he will be able to take wickets even in flat pitches.

“I have seen him bowl and he has been pretty impressive. He can bowl on flat pitches and take a lot of wickets and clean up teams. I am sure if he is picked in the playing XI in the West Indies, he will impress and do better than the others," Thomson added.

Shardul has been in wonderful form for the past two seasons in the Ranji Trophy taking 48 and 41 wickets respectively and is a part of the 17-man Indian squad traveling to the Caribbean Islands.

After coaching the youngsters as part of the MCA-IDBI Federal Life Insurance Bowling Foundation's coaching programme, Thomson believes that the bowling programme has unearthed many talented bowlers.

"These kids are rookies picked from poor areas, not gifted with money. You got to be a little crazy to become fast bowlers, need to dislike batsmen and should be prepared to do the hard work in these kinds of temperatures. We have not even touched the tip of the iceberg," Thomson was quoted as saying by India Today.
